I love green smoothie and I’m since I have them almost everyday for breakfast, I’m constantly looking for new ways to switch things up. That’s why I was excited to try Oriya Organics* vegan superfoods products, which consist of nutrient-dense, whole food ingredients and are unprocessed and unaltered in any way.
I love their mission, which is “to bring nature’s greatest organic superfoods to the world.” In addition to making all of their products with organic ingredients, they are also committed to responsible and sustainable farming methods. For me, going vegan was for the animals, but also for the environment. I can feel good about supporting companies that share my viewpoints on our responsibility to source our food more sustainably.
One of my complaints with some other vegan protein powders and superfoods often times there are added sweeteners. Oriya does not add any sweeteners to their products, which I really like since I blend them into smoothies and other ingredients like coconut milk and fruit to provide flavor.
I created a recipe using their Superfood Protein Medley, which boasts 18 grams of plant-based protein per scoop! Other superfoods in the blend include Sprouted Brown Rice Protein, Hemp Protein, Sprouted Chia Seeds, Chlorella and Spirulina. Sometimes I get a nervous of spirulina because of salty taste it can have. So I put together a recipe that would incorporate that hint of salt in a tasty way!
My Carrot Cake Superfood Smoothie has everything you want in a well-balanced meal:
- fresh vegetables (carrot and spinach)
- healthy fats (from the almond butter and omega-3’s in the Oriya Organics superfood)
- PLENTY of fiber
- and yes, protein!
Oriya’s website also points out that the Superfood Protein Medley and SuperGreen Medley can be used in other ways such as a flour substitute. Maybe I’ll create an actual carrot cake with superfood next!
- 1 scoop Oriya Organics Superfood Protein Medley
- 2 frozen bananas
- 2 cups water (or plant-based milk)
- 1/3 cup peeled chopped carrots
- 2 Tbsp almond butter
- 1-2 fresh pitted dates
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
- Add more or less dates to adjust the level of sweetness.
